About Us

One of China’s oldest museums, Zhejiang Provincial Museum (ZPM) was founded in 1929 as the West Lake Museum of Zhejiang Province. Over the past eight decades, it has become the largest comprehensive museum for the humanities in Zhejiang. It is also a first-class National Museum that was developed jointly by central and local government.

Zhejiang Provincial Museum is the first provincial museum which opened to the public free in Jan 1st, 2004. It covers an area of over 40,000 m2. The main exhibition halls include the Gushan Branch, Wulin Branch, West Lake Gallery, HUANG Binhong’s Memorial Hall, SHA Menghai’s Former Residence and Wenlan Pavillion.

Zhejiang Provincial Museum started to do art licensing during the reunited exhibition of Dwelling in the Fuchun Mountains which cooperated with The Palace Museum of Taipei in 2011. Through years of work, ZPM was awarded as “The First Session of National Museum Culture Product Demonstration Unit” in 2015. In 2017, Zhejiang Provincial Museum established a cultural creative platform named “Zhejiang Province Pavilion Wenlan Museum Store Alliance” for greater achievements.
