About Us

The Fo Guang Shan Buddha Museum, located in Dashu district, Kaohsiung, Taiwan, was officially opened in 2011. The Museum houses one of Sakyamuni Buddha’s tooth relics, which was gifted to the founder Venerable Master Hsing Yun in 1998. The Buddha Museum promotes Buddhism through arts and movies, in the humanistic and international dimensions. The Museum, which focuses on curation, research, education, and tourism, receives over 10 million visitors a year.

In 2014, the Buddha Museum became a member of the International Council of Museums (ICOM). Between 2014 and 2018, the Museum was certified by the ISO 50001 Quality Management System and received the Certificate of Excellence from TripAdvisor, earning the Hall of Fame Award in 2018. Between 2011 to 2016, the Buddha Museum signed two five-year collaboration agreements with the State Administration of Cultural Heritage, and held several exhibitions . Over the past few years, the Museum became sister museums with Shandong Provincial Museum, Anhui Museum, Suzhou Museum, Hubei Provincial Museum ,Hebei Museum, Shanxi Museum, Henan Museum, and Lvshun Museum. In 2016, the Museum held the Second Bi-Annual Cross-Strait Museums Meeting. In 2018, the Museum worked with Durham University, UK, in the “Walking with the Buddha” archaeological exhibition and held an academic conference in conjunction, serving as a platform for art and culture.
