      The Chongqing Three Gorges Museum is a Comprehensive Provincial Museum with the collection, protection, research, exhibition and dissemination of bayu culture, Three Gorges Culture, Anti-japanese war culture in the rear area, immigrant culture and united front culture. Formerly the Southwest Museum established in March 1951, it was renamed the Three Gorges Museum in June 1955 due to the withdrawal of the southwest region, and in September 2000 it undertook the rescue, exhibition and research of a large number of precious cultural relics in the Three Gorges Project, approved by the State Council General Office to set up the Three Gorges Museum (Chongqing Museum) . On June 18,2005, the new museum was officially opened to the public, covering an area of 30,000 square meters, 45,098 square meters, and the exhibition hall with an area of 20,858 square meters, with an annual average of 1.8 million visitors from home and abroad. The Three Gorges Museum continues to innovate and forge ahead on the basis of the rich heritage of the Southwest Museum, it is now the first group of National first-class museums, the central and local state-level museums, the national key protection units of ancient books, the National Patriotic Education demonstration base, the National Popular Science Education Base, the National Youth Education Base, the national first group of Public Cultural Facilities Lei Feng voluntary service demonstration units, the cross-strait cultural exchange base.
