The “Phoenix” sedan was produced on September 28, 1958. And after trial runs, it was renamed “Shanghai” in 1964, and produced in small quantities. SH760 as the first generation of Shanghai series was modeled on the Benz 220s made in 1956, specific on its frame, chassis and engine. SH760 was fitted with an inline six-cylinder, 2.2 liter engine, top speed was130 km/h, in addition, the car shift lever is located below the steering wheel. In the following 30 years, Shanghai sedan was one of the important domestic business cars for official activity and also was the bestselling sedan in China. At the end of the 1970s, a Japanese journalist wrote “It is more comfortable to ride on a Shanghai for a short distance than on a Toyota”. This remark indicated that the Shanghai model was of excellent quality. Until November 25, 1991, when the last Shanghai sedan rolled off the line, a total of 80,000 units were manufactured. This SH760 (the first generation) on display, produced in 1960, is a second-class collection of the museum. It was collected in 2010.
